08:00 - 17:00, 27.06.2026

Văn Miếu - Quốc Tử Giám

On the afternoon of January 27, at Hồ Văn, Văn Miếu – Quốc Tử Giám, the Party Committee and the People's Council – People's Committee of Dân Hòa Commune, the Hà Nội Kiều Studies Association, and the Văn Miếu – Quốc Tử Giám Center for Cultural and Scientific Activities jointly organized a scientific conference on the theme: "The Ancestral Origins of Great Poet Nguyễn Du."

Nguyễn Du (1750–1820), courtesy name Tố Như, pen name Thanh Hiên, was born in the year Ất Dậu, the 26th year of the Cảnh Hưng reign, in the Bích Câu ward of Thăng Long, present-day Hà Nội; his ancestral hometown was in Tiên Điền commune, Hà Tĩnh Province. His father was Xuân Quận công Nguyễn Nghiễm (1708–1776), who passed the doctoral examinations in the year Ất Hợi (1731) and rose to the position of Prime Minister under the Lê–Trịnh dynasty, as well as Rector of Quốc Tử Giám.

Born and raised in an intellectual, mandarin, and literary family environment, Nguyễn Du absorbed the essence of national culture from an early age, while also being deeply shaped by the upheavals of his era. He left to posterity the masterpiece "Truyện Kiều" — the pinnacle of Vietnamese literature.

The conference received 16 academic papers from delegates, who engaged in focused discussion and exchange on the historical and cultural values of the lands, clans, and homelands associated with the great poet Nguyễn Du.

This was also an important academic forum for scientists, researchers, and cultural managers to come together to discuss and shed light on the historical and scholarly values relating to the ancestral origins of the great poet Nguyễn Du.
